Technical Committee:
LAARC – Tech Committee Report 11-22-2025
Here is the November 2025 report on the LAARC Tech Committee activities over the
fall months.

1) The LAARC New Repeater Station cabinet was moved to the County Campus,
installed and operating on November 5th . A future site visit this year for some simple
tasks and adjustments will complete the new repeater station final installation.

2) The downtown Elkhorn site location has been vacated for our club ham use and the
repeater cabinet equipment will be moved to the Fontana Remote Site. It will be
installed there for future station back up operation and be used only a test basis. Signal
reports for both sites are appreciated going forward.

3) John K9KEU is leading Extra Ham Class sessions over the past two months at the
Fontana Middle School. A few candidates are preparing for testing this month. Good
luck to them and a big thanks to John for taking the time on these past Tuesday
evenings to instruct and inspire our local ham operators.

4) Dennis KC9WBG 2 Meter station was put back on the air with the help of Richard
NQ9R and Tom N9BBG. A feed line problem was corrected and the antenna
installation was moved to his new apartment unit. His radio mic gain setting was also
adjusted for lowering transmit audio distortion.

5) John K9KEU also helped fix a dual band radio for Peter KD9VTU that had memory
problems. Peter now has another good radio for his station.

Great results and fun with lots of technical activities from the technical committee.

Tom N9BBG
LAARC Tech Committee Director

From The Editor's Desk:

First I'd like to thank John-K9KEU and the other members involved in the license
training/upgrade classes that have been held. You're a perfect example of what an
Amateur Radio “Elmer” is.

I hope I was able to help clear any confusion there might be in regard to the Yaesu
Fusion/Wires-X system. I'm going to invite anyone that needs a hand getting their
radio/ pc set-up and configured for this system to contact me and we can set a date and
time to meet and work on getting this working for you. There is only one thing that
would need to be done first and that is getting your radio registered with the Wires-X
system. That is something I can help you with.
These are different “Rooms” that you can enter. They're like a regular room where you
can have a conservation with others (nodes) in the room. The following are the current
members that are listed as “Nodes”. You can meet with them in a “Room” or you can
do a “direct” with them. Node to node.
Room #21080 America-Link
Room #21493 MNWIS Fusion
Room #21667 Wisconsin Link
Room #43588 W9RH Room Saturday nite net at 7pm
Room #43302 SE-WIS-NET
Room #28054 Americas Kansas City Wide Busy room 24/7
Room #43516 Port Richey, FL WA4GDN System located down by N9ZXP
Peter – W9IXN Node #74276
Gary – KB9VGD Node #54197
Steve – KB9OLD Node #74510
Node #98355 (Preferred Node)
Bill – N9ZXP Node #70279

Here is some info from the Wires-X web site. Hope it makes some sense for you.
WIRES-X Opening a node
WIRES-X uses local nodes (stations connected to the Internet via PCs) as access
points to relay communications of conventional amateur radio stations.
Mobile stations using WIRES-X can communicate with amateur stations all over the
world by using a local node access station operating within an amateur band.
1. Node station connected with the HRI-200 interface
The WIRES-X node consists of a PC, the WIRES-X connection kit HRI-200 and a
transceiver and is a repeater station used as the WIRES-X access point to connect the
Internet and the wireless signal alternatively. The WIRES-X node can open and run a
community space "room" where multiple nodes can connect at the same time.
Furthermore, the news function allows you to upload/download messages or images
to/from each node or room.
2. WIRES-X Portable Digital Node Station
Using the WIRES-X Portable Digital Node function, you can operate a WIRES-X
digital node station by directly connecting a Portable Digital Node capable C4FM
digital transceiver with the PC. The HRI-200 Internet interface kit is not needed, and
no fixed or dynamic global IP address is required.)
* With the WIRES-X Portable Digital Node function, you cannot operate a WIRES-X
Room (Including a digital room) or use the remote-control function from another
location.
